The submissions to official inquiries and similar publications are listed below. Papers outlining EIUG’s policy positions are available in the Position Papers section. Press releases are available in the Press section.
24.08.23 | Response to ESNZ committee inquiry into a flexible grid of the future The EIUG has received feedback from energy intensive industries that the time it takes to get a connection to the grid deters business cases for more embedded renewable generation or industrial electrification moving forward. It agrees with the assessment and recommendations in the Electricity Network Commissioner’s letter to the Secretary of States, as supported by the analysis in the companion report by the Energy Systems Catapult. The EIUG suggests that the key question for the inquiry is whether the proposed changes are sufficient to achieve the Government’s decarbonisation objectives. |
09.06.22 | Environmental Audit Committee inquiry - EIUG response The EIUG responded to the EAC's inquiry into accelerating the transition from fossil fuels and securing supplier. Its main points are: - Businesses are also energy consumers; - Government should support the deployment of the least-cost low-carbon energy sources; - Energy markets are interlinked and any significant measure taken abroad to reduce reliance on Russian natural gas or oil will have a price impact in the UK; - High energy prices risk leading to demand destruction of energy intensive industries and scaling back manufacturing productions as products may not be able to compete internationally. |
07.09.18 | Response to BEIS consultation on widening relief from the indirect costs of renewable energy schemes EIUG supports lowering the eligibility threshold to reduce distortion of trade between energy intensive industries |
02.05.18 | Response to Ofgem RII0-2 Framework Consultation EIUG supports maintaining simplicity, making use of exiting forums for stakeholder consultation and extending competition in the RIIO-2 price control |
